The two-tone pairing

Figurative folk silhouettes and abstract geometric shapes run all over the indigo, while the dupatta keeps its motifs sparse and saves the drama for its bordered ends. Yellow figure borders repeat at the edges of both, which is what ties the two colours together.

The olive piece is left plain on purpose. It is the rest your eye needs against a high-density print, and it means the set never looks busy when stitched.

Silk, fit and wear

Katan silk holds a matte, grounded finish here rather than a shine, with the drape you expect from silk and the opacity to skip a lining. The full set weighs 600 to 650 g.

Stitch the indigo as the kurta and the olive as the salwar for the strongest reading of the pairing, or reverse it for a softer one. Mustard or antique gold jewellery picks up the borders.
