The leaf repeat

The motif is deliberately small - a stylised leaf, printed dense on the top and dupatta so that from a step away the fabric reads as texture rather than pattern. Each leaf was stamped by hand with a carved wooden block, and the tiny variations from one impression to the next, the slight lean, the occasional heavier press, are what mark it as hand work rather than a machine repeat.

The banded border

Where the top is all-over print, the dupatta and the bottom are finished with a linear geometric band that frames them and stops the leaf work running to the edge. It is the detail that makes this set look considered when stitched, and it is worth telling your tailor to keep the band intact at the hem rather than cutting through it.

The silk

Katan silk gives the beige a matte, restrained surface with sheen underneath rather than on top - the reason this earthy palette reads expensive instead of plain. The whole set weighs 600 to 650 grams, and against a premium woven silk suit at several times the price, you are getting genuine hand block craft on silk for a fraction of it.

Wearing it

Beige and brown carry brass, wood and terracotta beautifully, and a tan or oxblood sandal finishes it. It is an easy office suit through the week and moves to a daytime function with heavier jewellery.
