A warm peach-beige silk, scattered with small magenta florals edge to edge.

Why this piece

  • The light beige ground makes the magenta florals read clearly, a lighter set than most block-printed silks.
  • Colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, which is what a pale ground depends on.
  • Linear geometric borders and tasselled edges give the dupatta a finished frame.

The print

Small magenta florals repeat densely across the top, then thin out on the bottom piece so the two do not compete when stitched together. Straight geometric stripes edge the bottom and the dupatta, and the dupatta ends in fine tassels.

On a pale ground every impression is visible, including the ones that land a shade deeper. That is the honest record of a block pressed by hand rather than rolled by a machine.

The fabric

Katan silk in a soft beige with a warm peach cast, holding a gentle lustre that keeps a light shade from looking washed out. It is fully opaque despite the pale colour, so no lining is required, and the whole set weighs only 600 to 650 g.

Styling

Light neutrals are the easiest silks to wear to the office and to summer daytime functions, and this one takes both without a change of jewellery. Pearl or rose-gold accessories follow the magenta; oxidised silver pulls it towards a crafted, everyday look. If you want more structure in the kurta for a formal day, add a lining, though the fabric does not need one.

What you get

  • Top: 2.5 m, 44 to 45 inches wide
  • Bottom: 2.5 m, 44 to 45 inches wide
  • Dupatta: 2.5 m, 35 to 36 inches wide
  • Weight: 600 to 650 g for top, bottom and dupatta together
  • Lining: Not needed, the fabric is opaque; add one only to elevate the look
  • Stitching: Up to 4XL for straight kurta sets, length customisable
  • Care: Dry clean the first wash, then a gentle cold hand wash
  • Dispatch: Dispatched the next working day, even though every metre is printed by hand
  • Collection: Phuhaar

Small shifts in the depth and alignment of each floral come from hand-pressed blocks, and are the proof of hand work rather than a defect.
